Cruise Control Systems: Testing: Servo

  1. Unplug 8-pin connector from amplifier. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between 8-pin connector terminals as specified. See SERVO RESISTANCE TEST table. If all resistances are as specified go to step 2). If any measurement is not as specified, check wiring and servo separately. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . Replace servo or repair wiring as necessary.
    SERVO RESISTANCE TEST

    Between Pin No. (1) Ohms
    5 and 6 40-75
    5 and 7 100-150
    4 and 3 20,000-30,000
    4 and 2 40,000-60,000
    (1) Measure resistance between pins on component.

  2. Unplug servo connector. Connect servo Pin No 4 on servo to battery voltage. Connect servo Pin No. 6 to ground. See Fig 2 . Start engine.
  3. Momentarily connect servo Pin No. 3 (Pin No. 5 on Escort and Tracer) to ground. Servo arm should pull in and engine speed should increase. Servo arm should maintain position or release slowly.
  4. When Pin No. 2 (Pin No. 6 on Escort and Tracer) is disconnected from ground, servo should release. Replace servo if any part of test fails.
