Error Code 04 (Ambient Temperature Sensor)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1994 Mercury Sable, 1994 Lincoln Continental, and 1994 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Outside temperature display reads "-40°" or "140°". Also, check for cold air discharged when heat is selected or warm air discharged when A/C is selected.
  2. Disconnect negative battery cable to reset outside temperature display. Unplug wiring harness at ambient temperature sensor. Measure resistance across sensor terminals. See IN-CAR & AMBIENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE  table.
  3. Replace sensor if resistance is not as specified. If resistance is okay, keep battery cable disconnected. Unplug connectors from EATC control panel. Check wiring and connectors between ambient temperature sensor and EATC control panel for shorted or open circuits. Repair as necessary.
