Code 6
- Start vehicle and observe Yellow light for proper self-check. If Yellow light self-check is okay, go to next step. If Yellow light self-check is not okay, go to TEST A - YELLOW LIGHT OFF, DOES NOT SELF-CHECK under PRECHECK TESTS .
- Raise vehicle on hoist to allow wheels to spin freely. Ensure vehicle is in 2WD mode and hubs are unlocked. Set voltmeter to 200-millivolt AC scale. Connect voltmeter across RABS data link connector (Light Green/Black and Red/Pink wires). Refer to the COMPONENT LOCATIONS table. Start vehicle. Place transmission in Drive. Allow wheels to spin at 5 MPH. If voltage is 650 millivolts AC or more, go to next step. If voltage is less than 650 millivolts AC, replace speed sensor. Go to CODE 16 under TEST DRIVE .
- Remove differential cover. Measure shortest distance from speed sensor pole piece to teeth on speed sensor ring. Rotate axle 60-90 degrees. Repeat measurement 5-6 times. If all measurements are 0.005-0.050" (.13-1.27 mm) and within 0.010" (.25 mm) of each other, go to step 5). If measurements are not 0.005-0.050" (.13-1.27 mm), check for foreign material under sensor mounting flange and on carrier housing. Replace sensor and go to next step. If measurements are not within 0.010" (.25 mm) of each other, install sensor and go to CODE 16 under TEST DRIVE .
- Verify installed sensor is fully seated in bore and hold-down bolt is tightened to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Repeat measurements in step 3). If all measurements are 0.005-0.050" (.13-1.27 mm) and within 0.010" (.25 mm) of each other, go to CODE 16 under TEST DRIVE . If measurements are not as specified, replace rear axle assembly. Go to CODE 16 under TEST DRIVE .
- Carefully inspect each tooth on speed sensor ring. If any teeth are missing, malformed or damaged, replace rear axle assembly. Go to CODE 16 under TEST DRIVE . If sensor ring is okay, return to step 9) in CODE 6 - ERRATIC SPEED SENSOR WHILE ROLLING under TROUBLE CODE DIAGNOSIS .
