Description & Operation: Notes
On Probe models, a separate Transmission Control Module (TCM) is used in conjunction with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). On all other models, TCM functions are incorporated into the PCM.
Input signals from sensors are sent to the PCM/TCM. The PCM/TCM can determine when the time and conditions are right for a shift or converter clutch application.
On F4E/4EAT - Type-F transaxle 4 electronic solenoids accomplish these functions; 3 On/Off solenoids for shifting and one On/Off solenoid for torque converter clutch control.
On F4E/4EAT - Type-GF transaxle 7 electronic solenoids accomplish these functions; 3 On/Off solenoids for shifting, 2 On/Off solenoids for torque converter clutch control, one On/Off solenoid for 3-2 shift timing and one Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) solenoid for line pressure control.
The PCM/TCM has built-in self-diagnosis, fail-safe code and warning code display for the main input sensors and solenoid valves. On Probe 2.5L models, O/D OFF light flashes when faults are detected.
