The CHECK ENGINE light, located on the instrument cluster, is referred to as Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) in this article.
Before proceeding with this article, ensure steps in the BASIC TESTING - 2.5L article have been performed. If no faults were found while performing BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES, proceed with self-diagnostics. If no fault codes are present after entering self-diagnostics, proceed to TESTS W/O CODES - EEC (2.5L) article for diagnosis by symptom.
