OBD-II Drive Cycle

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1996 Mazda B4000, 1996 Mazda B3000, and 1996 Mazda B2300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Perform this procedure only when instructed to do so.
  1. Start and drive vehicle for 4 minutes. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) Tool (49 T088 0A0) to data link connector 2 located under left side of dash. Turn ignition on. Using NSG tool, monitor ECT PID value until value reaches .6 volt or greater at 180°F (82°C).
  2. Allow vehicle to idle for 80 seconds. Accelerate to 45 MPH at one quarter to one half throttle for about 8 seconds. Drive vehicle at 30-45 MPH for 4 minutes. Drive vehicle at 30-40 MPH for one minute at steady throttle. Decelerate and idle for 80 seconds.
  3. Accelerate to 55 MPH at one quarter to one half throttle for about 8 seconds. Decelerate at closed throttle for 10 seconds. Again, accelerate to 55 MPH at one quarter to one half throttle for about 8 seconds, then decelerate at closed throttle for 10 seconds.
  4. Accelerate back to 55 MPH at one quarter to one half throttle for about 8 seconds. Drive vehicle at a speed between 40-60 MPH for 5 minutes at steady throttle. Drive vehicle at 25-40 MPH with at least 6 stops for 10 minutes. Decelerate and idle. With ignition on (vehicle idling or engine off), check for Continuous Memory codes.
