Headlight Doors Inoperative

  1. Check 20-amp RETRA fuse located in main fuse panel. If fuse is okay, go to step 4). If fuse is not okay, go to next step.
  2. Ensure ignition is off. Replace 20-amp RETRA fuse. If fuse failed again, go to next step. If fuse did not fail again, go to step 4).
  3. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect headlight door motor electrical connectors. Remove 20-amp RETRA fuse. Connect ohmmeter between 20-amp RETRA fuse Red/White wire and ground. If resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms, replace fuse, then go to next step. If resistance is not greater than 10,000 ohms, repair Red/White wire between 20-amp RETRA fuse and headlight door motors.
  4. Disconnect Central Processing Unit (CPU) electrical connector. Disconnect headlight door motor electrical connectors. Measure voltage between Red/Green wire at CPU and Red/White wire at headlight motor connector. If voltages are greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltages are not greater than 10 volts, repair wiring.
  5. Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect CPU connector. Turn headlights (high beams) on. Measure voltage between CPU connector White wire and ground, and Red/White wire and ground. If voltages are greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltages are not greater than 10 volts, repair wiring as necessary.
  6. Turn ignition off. Disconnect headlight door motor connectors. Measure resistance of Black wire between headlight door motor connector and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair Black wire.
  7. Turn ignition off. Disconnect CPU connector and headlight door motor connectors. Measure resistance between CPU connector Red/Blue wire and headlight door motor Red wire. Also measure resistance between CPU connector White/Black wire and headlight door motor Orange/Black wire. Measure resistance between ground and CPU connector Red/Blue wire, and between ground and CPU White/Blue wire. If resistances are less than 5 ohms between CPU and headlight door motor, and greater than 10,000 ohms between CPU and ground, go to next step. If resistances are not less than 5 ohms between CPU and headlight door motor, and are not greater than 10,000 ohms between CPU and ground, repair appropriate circuit.
  8. Turn ignition off. Reconnect CPU connector. Measure voltage between ground and CPU connector. See CHECKING CPU OUTPUTS table. If all voltages match, replace headlight door control module. If all voltages match, replace CPU.
