Spark Plugs

Removal and Installation

1. Remove ignition wires from spark plugs as outlined.

WARNING:
- EYE PROTECTION REQUIRED WHEN USING COMPRESSED AIR.

2. Loosen spark plugs 1/4 turn and using compressed air remove any dirt or foreign material from spark plug areas of cylinder head.

NOTE:
- On the 3.8L engine the right bank Spark plugs are accessed from below the vehicle.

3. Remove spark plugs.

NOTE:
- Refer to the Spark Plug Inspection Chart to determine the condition of the spark plugs.

4. Check and adjust spark plug gap as Outlined.

5. To install, reverse the Removal procedure. install spark plugs by hand and tighten spark plugs to 9-20 N.m (7-15 lb-ft).

CLEANING AND INSPECTION

Spark Plug.

NOTE:
- several unique styles of spark plugs are produced for 3.OL (2V) engines. Each style is identified by the part number letters.

1. AWSF-32P indicates the center electrode is enhanced with platinum and are used in cylinders 4, 5 and 6 of the engine.

2. AWSF-32PG indicates the ground (side) electrode is enhanced with platinum and are used in cylinders 1, 2 and 3 of the engine.

3. AWSF-32PP indicates platinum enhancement on both the ground (side) and center electrode. These PP spark plugs are the service replacement for all cylinders of the engine.

If a spark plug is removed for examination, it must be reinstalled back into the same cylinder. if a spark plug needs to be replaced. Use only spark plugs with the service part number as shown on the engine decal.
