Improper Power Lumbar Operation

  1. Switch Operation Check  - Partially remove power seat switch, leaving harness connected. Using a test light, backprobe Yellow/Black wire at harness connector while actuating switch to inflate lumbar support. If test light comes on, go to next step. If test light does not come on, replace power seat switch.
  2. Motor Check  - Actuate switch to inflate lumbar support. If lumbar support pump does not operate, go to next step. If lumbar support pump operates, go to step 6).
  3. Lumbar Support Pump/Motor Assembly Power Supply & Ground Check  - Disconnect lumbar support pump/motor harness connector. Turn ignition on. Using voltmeter, measure voltage between Yellow/Black wire and White/Black wire at connector. Actuate switch to inflate lumbar support. If reading is not battery voltage, go to next step. If reading is battery voltage, replace lumbar support pump/motor assembly and retest system.
  4. Lumbar Support Pump/Motor Assembly Power Supply Check  - Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe Yellow/Black wire at switch connector. Actuate switch to inflate position. If test light does not come on, go to next step. If test light comes on, repair open White/Black wire between pump/motor assembly and ground.
  5. Circuit Check  - Disconnect harness connectors from power lumbar control switch and pump motor. Using ohmmeter, measure resistance of Yellow/Black wire between switch and motor connectors. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace switch and retest system. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open Yellow/Black wire and retest system.
  6. Inflation System Check  - Actuate switch to inflate position. If bladder does not inflate, go to next step. If lumbar bladder inflates, go to step 10).
  7. Airflow Check At Lumbar Support Pump/Motor  - Remove lumbar support hose from pump/motor. Actuate switch to inflate position. If air is felt at pump/motor outlet, go to next step. If air is not felt at pump/motor outlet, replace lumbar support pump/motor assembly.
  8. Airflow Check At Seat Control Switch  - Reconnect hose to pump/motor assembly. Disconnect air supply hose from seat control switch. Actuate switch to inflate position. If air is felt at open hose, go to next step. If air is not felt at open hose, check hose for kinks or breaks. Repair or reroute hose as necessary.
  9. System Leak Check  - Reconnect hose to seat control switch. Disconnect hose from lumbar support bladder and connect an in-line pressure gauge. Actuate switch to inflate position until gauge reads 5 psi (.35 kg/cm2 ). Wait 3 hours and recheck pressure. If pressure is less than 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ), go to next step. If pressure is 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ) or greater, reconnect hose to lumbar support bladder and retest system.
  10. Lumbar Support Bladder Leak Check  - Remove in-line pressure gauge. Attach hand pump to lumbar support bladder. Apply 5 psi (.35 kg/cm2 ) pressure to bladder. Wait 3 hours and recheck pressure. If pressure is less than 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ), replace lumbar support bladder. If pressure is 4 psi (.28 kg/cm2 ) or greater, replace power seat control switch. After repairs are completed, retest system.
