Test M: Lighting Control Module (LCM), Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor & Anti-Lock Brake Module Do Not Respond

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Town Car. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Inspect DLC terminal No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire) and wire connection. See Figure. If terminal and wire connection are okay, go to next step. If terminal and wire connection are damaged, repair as necessary. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS.
  2. Disconnect lighting control module Black 16-pin connector C220 (located under instrument panel to right of steering column). Measure resistance in Light Blue/White wire between DLC terminal No. 7 and lighting control module Black 16-pin connector C220 terminal No. 8. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/White wire. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS.
  3. Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 7 and 16. If voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present (zero volts), goto step 5).
  4. Measure voltage between DLC terminals No. 5 and 7. If no voltage is present (zero volts), go to next step. If voltage is present, verify NGS tester is functioning properly.
  5. Disconnect 16-pin harness connector C101 (located on driver's side rear corner of engine compartment). Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS . If DTC 000E is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 000E is not retrieved,go to step 7).
  6. Ensure evacuate and fill connector cap is in place. Reconnect 16-pin harness connector C101. Disconnect ABS control module 28-pin connector C162 (located at left front of engine compartment, on front of upper radiator support). Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 000E is retrieved, replace anti-lock brake module. If DTC 000E is not retrieved, repair Light Blue/White wire between anti-lock brake module connector C162 and harness connector C101. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS .
  7. Reconnect ABS control module 28-pin connector C162. Deactivate air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. Disconnect air bag diagnostic monitor 12-pin connector C277 (located behind right side of instrument panel cowl trim panel). Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS . If DTC 001C is not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 001C is retrieved, replace air bag diagnostic monitor. Reactivate air bag system. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS.
  8. Reconnect air bag diagnostic monitor 12-pin connector C277. Reactivate air bag system. Disconnect lighting control module Black 16-pin connector C220 (located under instrument panel to right of steering column). Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 000D is retrieved, replace lighting control module. If DTC 000D is not retrieved, repair short in Light Blue/White wire between DLC, harness connector C212, lighting control module and air bag diagnostic monitor. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS.
