Test M: Lighting Control Module (LCM), Air Bag Diagnostic Monitor & Driver's Door Module Do Not Respond (Without Driver's Door Module & Driver's Seat Module)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis and 1997 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Inspect DLC pin No. 7 (Light Blue/White wire) and wire connection. See Figure. If pin and wire connection is okay, go to next step. If pin and/or wire connection is damaged, repair as necessary. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS.
  2. Disconnect lighting control module Black 16-pin connector C2027 (located under instrument panel to right of steering column). Measure resistance in Light Blue/White wire between DLC pin No. 7 and lighting control module Black 16-pin connector C2027 pin No. 8. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/White wire. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS.
  3. Measure voltage between DLC pins No. 5 and 7. If voltage is present, go to next step. If no voltage is present (zero volts), go to step 5).
  4. Measure voltage between DLC pins No. 7 and 16. If no voltage is present (zero volts), go to next step. If voltage is present (zero volts), verify NGS tester is functioning properly.
  5. Disconnect Black 16-pin harness connector C119 (located on driv-er's side rear corner of engine compartment). Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS . If DTC 000E is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 000E is not retrieved, go to step 7).
  6. Ensure evac and fill connector cap is in place. Reconnect Black 16-pin harness connector C119. Disconnect ABS control module Gray 28-pin connector C162 (located at left front of engine compartment, on front of upper radiator support). Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS . If DTC 000E is retrieved, replace ABS control module. If DTC 000E is not retrieved, repair Light Blue/White wire. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS .
  7. Reconnect Black 16-pin harness connector C119. Deactivate air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. Disconnect air bag diagnostic monitor Black 12-pin connector C276 (located behind right side of instrument panel). Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 001C is not retrieved, go to next step. If DTC 001C is retrieved, replace air bag diagnostic monitor. Reactivate air bag system. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS .
  8. Reconnect air bag diagnostic monitor Black 12-pin connector C276. Reactivate air bag system. Disconnect lighting control module Black 16-pin connector C2027 (located under instrument panel to right of steering column). Perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS. If DTC 000D is retrieved, replace lighting control module. If DTC 000D is not retrieved, repair short in Light Blue/White wire between DLC, harness connector C119, harness connector C211, lighting control module and air bag diagnostic monitor. Reconnect connectors. Repeat DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS  under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS.
