Coolant Temperature Sending Unit Test

  1. Let engine cool. Unplug coolant temperature sending unit connector. On 2.0L, sending unit is located at top left of engine. On 2.5L, sending unit is located at top right of engine.
  2. Measure resistance between sending unit terminal and ground. Resistance should be 1150 ohms at 68°F (20°C).
  3. Start and warm engine to normal operating temperature. Sending unit resistance should gradually decrease as engine warms. If resistance is as specified, go to appropriate sypmtom test for further diagnosis. See TESTING (PINPOINT TESTS)  . Replace sending unit if measurements are not as specified.
