Interval Wiper Relay Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mercury Mystique and 1997 Ford Contour. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Remove interval wiper relay from instrument panel fuse block. Using a jumper wire, connect relay terminal No. 2 to positive battery terminal. See Figure. Connect another jumper wire between ground and relay terminal No. 1.
  2. Check for continuity between wiper relay terminals No. 3 and 5. Continuity should exist. Continuity should not exist between terminals No. 3 and 4.
  3. Disconnect jumper wire from terminal No. 1. Continuity should exist between terminals No. 3 and 4. Continuity should not exist between terminals No. 3 and 5. If continuity is not as specified, replace relay.
