Wiper Motor Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mercury Mystique and 1997 Ford Contour. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect wiper arm linkage. Disconnect wiper motor connector. See Figure. Connect jumper wires from terminals No. 1 and 4 (Black wires on mating connector) of wiper motor to ground.
  2. Using fused jumper wires, connect ammeter between positive battery terminal and terminal No. 6 (White/Black wire on mating connector) of wiper motor. Measure high speed current draw. Current draw should not exceed 5.5 amps.
  3. Disconnect ammeter from terminal No. 6 and reconnect to terminal No. 5 (White/Green wire on mating connector) of wiper motor. Measure low speed current draw. Current draw should not exceed 3.5 amps. If current draw is not as specified, replace wiper motor and retest system.
