Using New Generation Star (NGS) Scan Tester

  1. Perform proper equipment hook-up procedure for scan tester. See EQUIPMENT HOOK-UP under COMMUNICATION NETWORK DIAGNOSTICS in appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article.
  2. Using scan tester, select PATS, ACTIVE COMMAND mode. Select SCIL module KEYCODE ERASE TIME SET and set the time at 8 minutes. It will take 8 minutes to erase ignition key codes from the memory.
  3. Select SCIL module FUNCTION TESTS. Select ignition key ERASE ON. The ignition key codes will be erased in 8 minutes.
    NOTE: SCIL module must remain in diagnostic mode for 8 minutes after ERASE ON signal is sent or ignition key codes will be retained. Monitoring of erase cycle may be done by using PID NUM KEYS of the programmed keys after 8 minutes.
  4. Install a NEW coded ignition key in ignition switch and place ignition switch in the RUN position. Procedure is complete. For additional keys, see SPARE IGNITION KEY PROGRAMMING  under PROGRAMMING.
