Test E: No Response From Cellular Phone Module (CPM)
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect 42-pin harness connector C214. Harness connector C214 is located below driver's side of instrument panel, to the left of steering column. See Figure .
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire) on Data Link Connector (DLC) and terminal No. 32 (Tan/Orange wire) on female side of harness connector C214. See Fig 1 . Note resistance and go to next step.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire) on DLC and terminal No. 33 (Pink/Light Blue wire) on female side of harness connector C214. See Fig 1 . Note resistance and go to next step.
- If resistance is 5 ohms or less on both circuits, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms on any circuit, repair open circuit on Tan/Orange wire or Pink/Light Blue wire between DLC and harness connector C214. Repeat TEST A .
- Reinstall harness connector C214. Disconnect 16-pin harness connector C307. Harness connector C307 is located behind passenger's side rear panel. See Figure .
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire) on DLC and terminal No. 11 (Tan/Orange wire) on female side of harness connector C307. See Fig 2 . Note resistance and go to next step.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire) on DLC and terminal No. 6 (Pink/Light Blue wire) on female side of harness connector C307. See Fig 2 . Note resistance and go to next step.
- If resistance is 5 ohms or less on both circuits, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms on any circuit, repair open circuit on Tan/Orange wire or Pink/Light Blue wire between DLC and harness connector C307. Repeat TEST A .
- Disconnect Black 16-pin connector C402 from Cellular Phone Module (CPM). The CPM is located in the trunk, on panel below rear window and contains a Black 16-pin connector and a Black 12-pin connector.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 11 (Tan/Orange wire) on male side of harness connector C307 and terminal No. 16 (Tan/Orange wire) on connector C402 for CPM. See Fig 3 . Note resistance and go to next step.
- Using ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 6 (Pink/Light Blue wire) on male side of harness connector C307 and terminal No. 15 (Pink/Light Blue wire) on connector C402 for CPM. See Fig 3 . Note resistance and go to next step.
- If resistance is 5 ohms or less on both circuits, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms on any circuit, repair open circuit on Tan/Orange wire or Pink/Light Blue wire between harness connector C307 and connector C402 for CPM. Repeat TEST A .
- Inspect terminals No. 15 and 16 on connector C402 for damage. Also inspect corresponding pins on CPM for damage. If terminals on connector C402 and pins on CPM are okay, replace CPM. Repeat TEST A . If terminals on connector C402 or pins on CPM are damaged, repair as needed. Repeat TEST A .
