Section 35 (Mirrors - Power Memory): Operation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

To program memory seat/mirror system, move driver's seat and side mirrors to desired position. Press SET button. LED will glow. Before LED goes out (5 seconds), press button No. 1. To set position No. 2, repeat procedure, and press button No. 2. To recall any position, press corresponding button to activate module memory. Recall can be activated only when gear selector is in Park or Neutral. Memory can be programmed at any time.

Side mirrors may be adjusted manually, by-passing memory system. Depressing side view mirror control push-button switch, marked with arrows indicating adjustment directions, moves mirror up, down, left and right. A selector switch controls which mirror is adjusted. Selector switch should be placed in neutral position after adjustment.

The optional electronic rear view mirror is controlled by 2 light-sensitive photocells. On/Off switch is located on inside rear view mirror. Outside light level is measured by a sensor on backside of mirror housing. A second sensor, located inside the mirror, detects approaching rear lights. The mirror defaults to normal position whenever transmission gear selector is placed in Reverse.

When vehicle is in Reverse, both outside mirrors tilt down (driver's side 3°, passenger's side 5.5°) to improve visibility of rear bumper area. This feature can be disabled under Driver Settings Menu on the message center.
