Wiper Motor Current Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Mercury Cougar and 1997 Ford Thunderbird. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect wiper arm linkage. Disconnect wiper motor connector. See Fig 1 . Connect jumper wires from terminals No. 1 and 4 (Black wires on mating connector) of wiper motor to ground.
  2. Using fused jumper wires, connect ammeter between positive battery terminal and terminal No. 6 (White wire on mating connector) of wiper motor. Measure high speed current draw. Current draw should not exceed 5.5 amps.
  3. Disconnect ammeter from terminal No. 6 and reconnect to terminal No. 5 (Dark Blue/Orange wire on mating connector) of wiper motor. Measure low speed current draw. Current draw should not exceed 3.5 amps. If current draw is not as specified, replace wiper motor and retest system.
