Test A: No Communications With Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting (SCIL) Module
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Disconnect Steering Column/Ignition/Lighting (SCIL) module connector. SCIL is located behind right side of instrument panel. Measure resistance of Black/Light Blue wire between SCIL module connector terminal No. 14 and ground. See Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Light Blue wire and retest system.
- Ensure SCIL module connector is disconnected. Measure resistance of Black wire between SCIL module connector terminal No. 7 and ground. See Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire and retest system.
- Measure voltage at SCIL module connector terminals No. 11, 14, 15 and 26. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists at each terminal, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If battery voltage does not exist at each terminal, repair wire(s) in question. See WIRING DIAGRAM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. After repair, go to next step.
- Measure voltage at SCIL module connector terminals No. 5, 6 and 7. See Fig 1 . If battery voltage exists at each terminal, refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If battery voltage does not exist at each terminal, repair wire(s) in question. See WIRING DIAGRAM in MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. After repair, retest system.
