Test C: No Lock/Unlock Using KERT
NOTE:
In the following test procedure, while testing KERT for 10 yards range of remote entry system, confirm vehicle is more than 1/2 mile away from radio or TV towers.
- Check Transmitter/Remote Entry Operation - Turn ignition off. Press each button on KERT while standing 10 yards from vehicle. Confirm proper operation. If there is proper response for each button, system is okay. Return to SYMPTOM CHART . If there was improper response for one or more buttons, go to next step.
- Check Response From Transmitter No. 1 - Stand next to or sit inside vehicle. Press each button on KERT. If system responds to any button, to go step 4). If system does not respond to any button while next to or inside vehicle, go to next step.
- Check Response From Transmitter No. 2 - Stand next to or sit inside vehicle. Press each button on KERT. If system responds to any button, to go step 6). If system does not respond to any button while next to or inside vehicle, go to next step.
- Check Antenna - Check antenna connection to Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module to make sure it is fully seated. Connect antenna or press it fully into RAP module. Repeat step 1). If transmitter range has improved, system is functioning okay. If transmitter range has not improved, go to next step.
- Check Antenna Damage - Disconnect antenna from RAP module. With an ohmmeter, check for less than 10 ohms resistance from antenna signal terminal to opposite end of antenna coax center conductor. Reconnect antenna to RAP module. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, antenna is okay. Go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace antenna. Repeat step 1).
- Check NGS Tester Transmitter TIC/DATA For Stored TICs - Enter RAP, FUNCTION TESTING, TRANSMITTER TIC/DATA in order to see which Transmitter Identification Codes (TICs) are stored in RAP module. When screen first comes up, different 8-digit letter/number codes at right of TIC 1 and TIC 2 will represent these codes. If at least 2 transmitters are stored and displayed next to TIC 1 and TIC 2, go to next step. If there are not at least 2 transmitters shown, turn ignition off. Program all KERTs to be used with this system (at least 2). Repeat step 1).
- Check NGS Tester Transmitter TIC/DATA For Last TIC Received - Monitor transmitter TIC/DATA screen. Turn ignition off. (LAST TIC RECEIVED or LAST DATA RECEIVED may flash different information momentarily when button is pressed.) As soon as ignition is turned off, press and release UNLOCK button continuously for first KERT being operated. A transmission should be received 3-4 seconds after turning ignition off. Transmission received contains Transmitter Identification Codes (TICs) for KERT being operated and contains DATA for which button was pressed. If 8-letter/digit code appears under LAST TIC RECEIVED and word UNLOCK appears under LAST DATA RECEIVED, go to step 10). KERT and RAP module are okay at this time. If display is not as indicated, go to next step.
- Check NGS Tester Transmitter TIC/DATA For Second Transmitter - Repeat steps 6) and 7) for second KERT. If 8-letter/digit code appears under LAST TIC RECEIVED and word UNLOCK appears under LAST DATA RECEIVED, go to next step. If display is not as indicated, go to step 11).
- Check Transmitter Batteries - Switch battery in second KERT with first KERT. Repeat steps 6) and 7) for first KERT. If 8-letter/digit code appears under LAST TIC RECEIVED and work UNLOCK appears under LAST DATA RECEIVED, return original batteries to both KERTs. Replace batteries in first KERT. Restore and retest system. If display is not as indicated, replace damaged KERT. Restore and retest system.
- Check Transmitter TIC/DATA For TIC Match - View TIC/DATA. If all buttons pressed for each KERT create expected LAST TIC RECEIVED output, system is okay. If output is not as expected, turn ignition off. Program all KERTs. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Repeat step 1).
- Check Transmitter TIC/DATA For DATA Match - View TIC/DATA. If all buttons pressed for each KERT create expected LAST DATA RECEIVED output, system is okay. If output is not as expected, turn ignition off. Program all KERTs. See REMOTE TRANSMITTER under PROGRAMMING. Repeat step 1).
