Test D: Key-In-Ignition Circuit

NOTE: After repair, repeat GEM self-test and clear DTCs.
NOTE: Fuse 28 (15-amp) receives power from IGN SW fuse (40-amp) in battery junction box, Light Green/Violet wire runs to in-line connector C105, splice S217 and terminal No. 85 at ignition switch harness connector C209. Output of ignition switch terminal L1 (Red/Light Green wire) at harness connector C209 to input of fuse No. 34 (20-amp) and inside central junction box to input of fuse No. 28. (15-amp). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
  1. Remove central junction box fuse No. 28 (15-amp). Measure voltage between ground and input side of fuse No. 28 while turning ignition switch through all positions. If battery voltage exists in RUN and START positions only, go to next step. If voltage does not exist in RUN and START positions only, repair central junction box. See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. NOTE: Fuse No. 32 (15-amp) receives power from IGN SW fuse (40-amp) at battery junction box, Yellow wire runs to in-line connector C105, splice S215 and terminal No. B1 at ignition switch harness connector C209. Terminal A1 (Black/Light Green wire) is output from ignition switch and runs to splice S264 to input of fuse No. 26 (30-amp) and inside central junction box to fuse No. 32 (15-amp). See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
  3. Remove central junction box fuse No. 32 (15-amp). Measure voltage between ground and input side of fuse No. 32 while turning ignition switch through all positions. If battery voltage exists in RUN and ACC positions only, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist in RUN and ACC positions only, repair central junction box. See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  4. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C352. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure resistance in White/Light Green wire between terminal No. 8 at GEM harness connector C352 and output side of fuse No. 28. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in White/Light Green wire between GEM, splice S262 and fuse No. 28 (15-amp) at central junction box. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  5. Measure resistance in Black/Pink wire between terminal No. 22 at GEM harness connector C352 and output of central junction box fuse No. 32. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Pink wire between GEM, splice S265 and output of fuse No. 32 (15-amp). See appropriate wiring diagram in POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  6. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (Black/Pink wire) at GEM harness connector C352. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Pink wire between GEM, in-line connector C233 and key-in-ignition warning switch and/or replace key-in-ignition warning switch. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
  7. NOTE: White/Light Green wire runs between terminal No. 8 at GEM harness connector C352, splice S262 and output of fuse No. 28 (15-amp) at central junction box. Black/Pink wire runs between terminal No. 8 at GEM harness connector C352, splice S265 and output of fuse No. 32 (15-amp) at central junction box. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
  8. Remove ignition key. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 8 (White/Light Green wire) at GEM harness connector C352. See Figure. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 22 (Black/Pink wire) at GEM harness connector C352. If battery voltage does not exist, go to next step. If battery voltage exists, repair short to power in appropriate wire(s).
  9. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 9 (Black/Pink wire) at GEM harness connector C352. See Figure. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace GEM. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is 10 k/ohms or less, repair short to ground in Black/Pink wire.
