Test Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

  1. Q1 - CHECK FOR DTCs

  2. Q2 - CHECK THE ADVANCE TRAC®/IVD SWITCH

    • Disconnect: Advance Trac®/IVD Switch C3208.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Press and hold the Advance Trac®/IVD switch in the ON position.
    • Measure the resistance between Advance Trac®/IVD switch C3208-4, circuit 8-CF54 (WH/VT), and C3208-3, circuit 20-CF54 (PK/WH).
    • Is the resistance greater than 5 ohms?
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new Advance Trac®/IVD switch. REFER to TRACTION CONTROL ACTUATOR  in this section. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to Q3.
  3. Q3 - CHECK THE POWER TO THE ADVANCE TRAC®/IVD SWITCH

    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between Advance Trac®/IVD switch C3208-3 circuit 20-CF54 (PK/WH), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
      1. Yes  : GO to Q4.
      2. No  : REPAIR circuit 20-CF54 (PK/WH). TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. Q4 - CHECK THE ADVANCE TRAC®/IVD SWITCH INPUT

    • Key in OFF position.
    • Connect: Advance Trac®/IVD Switch C3208.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C135.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ABS module C135-38 circuit 8-CF54 (WH/VT) and ground while pressing the Advance Trac®/IVD switch ON.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
      1. Yes  : RELEASE the Advance Trac®/IVD switch. If the voltage drops to less than 2 volts, INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE  in this section. GO to Q5.
      2. No  : REPAIR circuit 8-CF54 (WH/VT). TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. Q5 - CHECK CIRCUIT 8-CF54 (WH/VT) FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module 135.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between ABS module C135-38, circuit 8-CF54 (WH/VT), harness side, and ground.
    • Is voltage present?
      1. Yes  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTC. REPEAT the self-test.
      2. No  : GO to Q6.
  6. Q6 - CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-CF45 (BK/GN) FOR SHORT TO POWER

    • Measure the voltage between ABS module C135-13, circuit 31S-CF45 (BK/GN), harness side and ground; and between Advance Trac®/IVD switch C3208-1, circuit 31S-CF45 (BK/GN) and ground.
    • Is voltage present?
      1. Yes  REPAIR the circuit(s). TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : GO to Q7.
  7. Q7 - CHECK CIRCUIT 31S-CF45 (BK/GN) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure the resistance between ABS module C135-13 circuit 31S-CF45 (BK/GN) and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
      1. Yes  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE  in his section. TEST the system for normal operation.
      2. No  : REPAIR circuit 31S -CF45 (BK/GN). TEST the system for normal operation.
