Pinpoint Test N: The Compass Is Inaccurate: Overview

Test Step
- N1 CHECK THE COMPASS ZONE ADJUSTMENT
- Carry out the compass zone adjustment procedure. REFER to COMPASS ZONE ADJUSTMENT .
- Is the compass zone set correctly?
Result / Action to Take
- Yes : GO to N2.
- No : INSTALL a new rear view mirror. REFER to EXTERIOR TRIM .TEST the system for normal operation.
- N2 CALIBRATE THE COMPASS
- Carry out the compass calibration adjustment procedure. REFER to COMPASS CALIBRATION .
- Does the compass calibrate correctly?
- Yes : GO to N4.
- No : GO to N3.
- N3 DEMAGNETIZE THE VEHICLE
- Demagnetize the vehicle. REFER to VEHICLE DEMAGNETIZING .
- Does the compass calibrate correctly?
- Yes :GO to N4.
- No : INSTALL a new rear view mirror. REFER to EXTERIOR TRIM . TEST the system for normal operation.
- N4 CHECK THE VEHICLE ACCURACY
- Position the vehicle and observe the compass display as follows:COMPASS DISPLAY CHART
Direction Compass Display North N Northeast NE East E Southeast SE South S Southwest SE West W Northwest NW - Does the compass calibrate correctly?
- Yes : The compass is operating correctly.
- No : INSTALL a new rear view mirror. REFER to EXTERIOR TRIM TEST the system for normal operation.
- Position the vehicle and observe the compass display as follows:
