Power Circuits

  1. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Using voltmeter, check for battery voltage between chassis ground and PCM Keep Alive Power (KAPWR) terminal No. 55. See Fig 1. If battery voltage is not present, check for open circuit in KAPWR circuit or KAPWR fuse located in central junction box (on F-Series), or in battery junction box (on Contour). See appropriate wiring diagram in WIRING DIAGRAMS article. If battery voltage is present, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch to START or ON position. Check for battery voltage between chassis ground and PCM connector terminals No. 71 and 97 (VPWR). If battery voltage is not present, power is not being supplied from PCM power relay. See TEST B under SYSTEM TESTS in SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V (GASOLINE) article.
