Test C: System Overcharges
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Lincoln LS and 2003 Lincoln LS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Check For Voltage Drop In "A" Circuit (Red Wire)
Turn the ignition off. Disconnect generator 3-pin connector. Measure the voltage drop between the generator connector terminal No. 3 (Red wire) and the positive battery terminal. See Figure . Is the voltage drop less than 0.5 volt? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair high resistance in "A" circuit (Red wire). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Test the system for normal operation. - Check Generator & Battery Ground Connections
Check the ground connections between the generator and the engine, and the battery and the engine. Are all ground connections clean and tight? If yes, install a new generator. See GENERATOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Test the system for normal operation. If no, repair ground connections as necessary. Test the system for normal operation.
