Removal and Installation

Set the mode select switch to the 4X4 HIGH position.

Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to JACKING & LIFTING .
Disconnect the gear motor encoder assembly harness connector.

Remove the bracket bolt and the gear motor encoder assembly mounting bolts and remove the gear motor encoder assembly.

Remove the grease from the motor adapter and check for any nicks or burrs. If any damage is found, repair or install a new gear motor encoder assembly as necessary. For additional information, refer to TRANSFER CASE - AUTOMATIC SHIFT .
To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Apply a coat of multi-purpose grease to the gear motor encoder assembly.
