Multifunction Switch

  1. Measure the resistance between the following multifunction switch terminals:
    CHECKING MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH RESISTANCE

    Function Multi- Function Switch Position Terminals Resistance Values
    Washer ON 590 and 993 Less than 5 Ohms
    OFF 590 and 993 Greater than 10,000 Ohms
    Wiper OFF 589 and 993 Approx. 47,000 Ohms
    INT 589 and 993 Approx. 11,000 Ohms
    LO 589 and 993 Approx. 4,000 Ohms
    HI 589 and 993 Less than 5 ohms
    OFF 589 and 590 Approx. 150,000 Ohms
    INT 589 and 590 Between 14,000 Ohms and 11,000 Ohms
    LO 589 and 590 Approx. 7,200 Ohms
    HI 589 and 590 Approx. 3,200 Ohms
    OFF 590 and 993 Approx. 100,000 Ohms
    INT 590 and 993 Between 100,000 Ohms and 3,200 Ohms
    LO 590 and 993 Approx. 3,200 Ohms
    HI 590 and 993 Approx. 3,200 Ohms
    Hazard ON 49 and BATT Less than 5 Ohms
    OFF 49 and IGN Less than 5 Ohms
    Turn Signal Center (no turn) Position 511 and 9, 511 and 5 Less Than 5 Ohms
    Left Turn Signal Place the Multi-Function Switch in the LEFT TURN Position 44 and 3, 44 and 9 Less than 5 Ohms
    Right Turn Signal Place the Multi-Function Switch in the RIGHT TURN Position 44 and 5, 44 and 2 Less than 5 Ohms
    High Beam Place the Multi-Function Switch in the HI BEAM Position 15 and 527/12 Less than 5 Ohms
    Low Beam Place the Multi-Function Switch in the LO BEAM Position 15 and 507/13, 196 and 527/12 Less than 5 Ohms
    Flash-To-Pass Hold the Multi-Function Switch in the FLASH-TO-PASS Position 196 and 527/12, 15 and 507/13 Less than 5 Ohms

If the resistances are as specified, the multifunction switch is OK. Return the multifunction switch to the vehicle. Test the system for normal operation.

If the resistances are not as specified, replace the multifunction switch. Refer to MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH .

Test the system for normal operation.
