Selector Lever Cable Adjustment

  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to JACKING AND LIFTING article.
  2. Place the selector lever in the Overdrive (Circle D) position.
    • Place a 1.3 kg (3 lb) weight on the selector lever.
  3. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the manual lever.

  5. Unlock the lock tab on the selector lever cable.

  7. For either automatic transmission, place the manual control lever in the Overdrive (Circle D) position.
    1. Place the manual control lever in the 1st gear position.
    2. Move the manual control lever 2 detents to the Overdrive (Circle D) position for the 4R70E/4R75E transmission. Move the manual control lever 3 detents to the (D) position for the TorqShift® transmission.

  9. Connect the selector lever cable to the manual control lever.

    NOTE: When installing the selector lever cable, make sure that the selector lever cable locking tabs are locked in place and the selector lever cable end is snapped onto the ball stud. Press the selector lever cable into the selector lever cable bracket and listen for the selector lever cable to click into place. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that it is locked into the selector lever cable bracket. Also, make sure that the selector lever cable end is correctly installed onto the ball stud. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that the selector lever cable end is correctly installed.
  11. Lock the transmission selector lever cable lock tab.

  13. Remove the weight.
  14. Carefully move the selector lever from detent to detent and compare with transmission settings. Verify that the vehicle will start in PARK or NEUTRAL and reverse lamps illuminate in REVERSE. If not, Steps 1 through 5 must be repeated and for the 4R70E/4R75E transmission, include digital transmission range (TR) or TR sensor adjustment in NEUTRAL. Readjust if necessary.
