Test M: No Communication With Module

NOTE: After repair is completed, clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) and recheck system for proper operation.
  1. Using NGS/WDS tester, observe PIDS IGN_A, IGN_R, IGN_S and IGN_O/L while turning ignition switch through all positions. If PID values agree with switch positions, go to next step. If PID does not agree with switch positions, repair circuit(s) between ignition switch and instrument panel fuse block. RUN/ACC is Black/Light Green wire between ignition switch terminal A-1 and terminal No. 16 at central junction box harness connector C242. RUN is Gray/Yellow wire between ignition switch terminal A-4 and terminal No. 12 at central junction box harness connector C243. START is Red/Light Blue wire between ignition switch terminal STA and terminal No. 18 at central junction box harness connector C243. See appropriate wiring diagrams in POWER DISTRIBUTION article.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect central junction box 34-pin harness connector C243. See Figure. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 11 at central junction box harness connector C243. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist, repair Tan/Black wire between fuse No. 103 (50-amp) at battery junction box, in-line connector C159 and terminal No. 11 at central junction box. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove GEM from central junction box. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Reconnect central junction box harness connector C243. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 4 at central junction box harness connector C267. See Figure. Measure voltage between ground and terminal No. 16 at central junction box harness connector C267. If battery voltage exists, go to next step. If battery voltages do not exist, replace central junction box.
  4. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 26 at GEM harness connector C239. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black/Light Blue wire between GEM, splice S208 and ground G201.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and terminal No. 14 at GEM harness connector C239. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, problem is in module communication network. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - EXPEDITION & NAVIGATOR article. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair Black/Light Blue wire between GEM, splice S208 and ground G201.
