Pinpoint Test A: No Communication With The Anti-Lock Brake System (Abs) Module

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Ford Ranger. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Test Step

  1. A1 CHECK CIRCUIT 605 (RD), 534 (YE/LG) AND 483 (RD) FOR POWER
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Anti-Lock Brake Control Module C135.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the ABS module C135 pins, harness side and ground as follows:
      VOLTAGE

      ABS Module C135 Pin Circuit
      20 605 (RD)
      11 483 (RD)
      28 534 (YE/LG)

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?

    Result / Action to Take

    1. Yes  : GO to A2.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit(s) in question. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. A2 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the ABS module C135 pin 1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground; and between the ABS module C135 pin 18, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
    1. Yes  : CHECK the module communications network. REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to diagnosis the module communication network.
    2. No  : REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test with the brake pedal not applied.
