WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer and 2004 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- G1 CHECK CIRCUITS 1005 (VT/OG)
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C220a.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster C220a-6, circuit 1005 (VT/OG), harness side and ground.
- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes
GO to G3 .
No
GO to G2.
- G2 CHECK THE BATTERY SAVER RELAY
- Remove the battery saver relay.
- Carry out the battery saver relay component test.
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.
- Does the battery saver relay pass the component test?
Yes
REPAIR circuit 1005 (VT/OG). CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
INSTALL a new battery saver relay. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- G3 CHECK CIRCUIT 705 (LG/OG)
- Key in OFF position.
- Remove the battery saver relay.
- Disconnect: Overhead Console C931, if equipped.
- Disconnect: Front Row Dome Lamp C929, if equipped.
- Measure the resistance between the battery saver relay, pin 5, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side and the overhead console C931-4, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side or between the battery saver relay pin 5, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side and the front row dome lamp C929-3, circuit 705 (LG/OG), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to G4.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- G4 CHECK THE BATTERY SAVER RELAY
- Remove the battery saver relay.
- Carry out the battery saver relay component test.
Refer to COMPONENT TESTING for schematic and connector information.
- Does the battery saver relay pass the component test?
Yes
GO to G5.
No
INSTALL a new battery saver relay. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- G5 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
- Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new instrument cluster. REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
