Restraints Control Module (RCM)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Ford Mustang. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

RCM contains a microcomputer, which monitors electrical system components and connections. RCM performs a system self-check of air bag system internal circuits every time ignition switch is turned to RUN position. RCM also illuminates the AIR BAG warning light during initial system self-check and flashes a Lamp Fault Code (LFC) whenever a fault is detected. If a system fault exists and-or AIR BAG warning light is malfunctioning, an audible tone will sound, indicating need for service.

RCM also employs a keep-alive period that allows RCM to remain powered and active for about 6 minutes after ignition switch is turned to OFF position. During this period, RCM is performing back-up power supply regulation and crash discrimination, while being capable of all deployment functions.
