Self-Diagnostic System

NOTE: After all repairs, clear DTCs and retest system.

Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, perform DATA LINK DIAGNOSTIC TEST. If NGS tester displays CKT 914, CKT 915 or CKT 70=ALL ECUS NO RESP/NOT EQUIP, diagnose network concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - RANGER article. If NGS tester displays NO RESP/NOT EQUIP for GEM, perform TEST E: NO COMMUNICATION WITH GEM under SYSTEM TESTS.
If NGS tester displays SYSTEM PASSED, retrieve and record continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) using NGS tester. Erase continuous DTCs. Perform GEM self-test using NGS tester. If DTCs related to the concern are present, perform appropriate test under SYSTEM TESTS. See GENERIC ELECTRONIC MODULE (GEM) DTC DEFINITIONS table. Codes listed in this table are for testing covered in this article. For complete DTC listing, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS - RANGER article. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, perform appropriate system test. See SYMPTOM TEST INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
