Test D: One-Touch Down Feature Inoperative

NOTE: On vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, depress clutch pedal when turning ignition switch to START position.
  1. Turn ignition off. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID IGN_GEM while turning ignition switch through all positions. If PID values agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PID values do not agree with ignition switch positions, check ignition switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - RANGER article. If ignition switch is defective, replace ignition switch. If ignition switch is okay, check ignition switch circuits. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Using NGS tester, retrieve and record continuous DTCs from GEM. Clear continuous DTCs and perform GEM self-test. If no DTCs are present, go to next step. If DTCs B1398 and/or B1400 are present, go to next step. If DTC B1342 is present, replace GEM.
  3. Turn ignition on. Using NGS tester, trigger GEM active command ACCY RLY on. Monitor GEM PID D_PWRLY while triggering GEM active command ONE TOUCH on and off. If GEM PID D_PWRLY value agrees with command mode, go to step  9 . If NGS tester displays OFFO-G, go to next step. If NGS tester displays ON-B-, go to step  7 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Check one-touch down relay. See ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY & BATTERY SAVER RELAY  under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is defective, replace one-touch down relay as necessary. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step.
  5. Remove accessory delay relay. Check resistance in Light Blue/Black wire between accessory delay relay connector terminal No. 30 and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 1. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire between accessory delay relay and one-touch down relay.
  6. Disconnect GEM 18-pin connector C224. Check resistance in Yellow/Red wire between one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 2 and GEM connector C224 terminal No. 7. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Yellow/Red wire between one-touch down relay and GEM.
  7. Turn ignition off. Check one-touch down relay. See ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY & BATTERY SAVER RELAY  under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is defective, replace one-touch down relay. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step.
  8. Disconnect GEM 18-pin connector C224. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 2 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure . If voltage is present, repair short to power in Yellow/Red wire between one-touch down relay and GEM. If voltage is not present, replace GEM.
  10. Turn ignition on. Check voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 1 (Light Blue/Black wire). See Figure . Check voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector terminal No. 5 (Light Blue/Black wire). If each voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If either voltage is 10 volts or less, repair appropriate Light Blue/Black wire(s) between one-touch down relay and accessory delay relay.
  11. Turn ignition off. Disconnect driver's door window motor 2-pin connector. See POWER WINDOW MOTOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect GEM 18-pin connector C224. Check resistance between GEM connector C224 terminal No. 10 (Gray wire) and driver's door window motor connector Red wire terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Gray wire or Red wire between GEM and driver's door window motor.
  12. Check resistance between GEM connector C224 terminal No. 2 (Orange/White wire) and driver's door window motor connector Red wire terminal. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Orange/White wire between GEM and splice S210 to driver's door window motor Red wire. Splice S210 is located in harness near radio connector.
