Standard ABS

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Ford RV Cutaway, 2008 Ford Econoline, 2008 Ford E450 Super Duty, and 2008 Ford Cutaway. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Standard ABS consists of the following components:

The ABS prevents wheel lock up by monitoring the front wheel speed sensors and the transmission output shaft speed (OSS) sensor, actuating the valves in the HCU, which modulates the brake pressure to the brake calipers. By preventing the wheels from locking up, the driver is able to maintain steering control and stop in the shortest possible distance under most conditions. The traction control system is controlled by the PCM and utilizes the ABS module for wheel speed information only. Engine only traction control (EOTC) helps maintain vehicle control during acceleration by modulating engine torque when driving on slippery or loose surfaces.
