Exhaust System: Notes
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Mariner and 2010 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The 2.5L exhaust system consists of:
- an exhaust downpipe.
- an exhaust intermediate pipe.
- a Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) mounted to the underbody catalytic converter.
- an underbody catalytic converter and muffler assembly that is a 1-piece design (OEM) and a 2-piece design for service.
- muffler brackets with isolators bolted to the body.
- a resonator tailpipe assembly.
The 3.0L exhaust system consists of:
- a 1-piece LH catalytic converter manifold.
- a RH exhaust manifold mounted catalytic converter.
- an exhaust Y-pipe.
- an underbody catalytic converter and muffler assembly that is a 1-piece design (OEM) and a 2-piece design for service.
- muffler brackets with isolators bolted to the body.
- a resonator tailpipe assembly.
The 2.5L hybrid exhaust system consists of:
- a 1-piece catalytic converter manifold.
- an intermediate pipe.
- an underbody catalytic converter and muffler assembly that is a 1-piece design (OEM) and a 2-piece design for service.
- muffler brackets with isolators bolted to the body.
- a resonator tailpipe assembly.
The exhaust system provides an exit for exhaust gases and reduces engine noise by passing exhaust gases through the catalytic converters, a muffler assembly and resonator. Rubber exhaust hanger insulators attach the exhaust system to the mounting hooks.
