WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Inspect Next Generation Star (NGS) tester harness connector for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If harness connector is okay, go to next step. If harness connector is damaged, repair as necessary.
  2. Inspect Data Link Connector (DLC) for physical damage, bent terminals or corrosion. If harness connector is okay, go to next step. If harness connector is damaged, repair as necessary.
  3. Remove and inspect fuse No. 3 (20-amp) from central junction box. If fuse is okay, reinstall fuse and go to next step. If fuse is blown, check for short to ground in Light Blue/White wire between central junction box and DLC and replace fuse No. 3.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and DLC terminal No. 16 (Light Blue/White wire). See Figure. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between central junction box and DLC. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  5. Measure resistance between ground and DLC terminals No. 4 (Black wire) and No. 5 (Black/White wire). If both resistances are 5 ohms or less, repair or replace NGS tester. If either resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in appropriate wire between ground and DLC. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
