Steering Column: Disassembly

- Remove the steering column. For additional information, refer to STEERING COLUMN .
- Release the tilt tension spring from the hanger.
- Pull downward on the tilt tension spring and route the spring over the spring hanger.
- Using suitable cutters, remove and discard the tilt tension spring retainer clip.
- Remove the tilt tension spring.
- Remove and discard the tilt lever nut.
- Remove the tilt tension spring hanger.
- Remove the tilt lever bolt.
- Remove the tilt lever bolt washer.
- Remove the sleeve tilt lever bolt washer.
- Pivot the support/tilt bracket upward.
- Remove the support/tilt bracket bushing.
- Remove the release lever spring.
- Remove the tilt lever sleeve washer.
- Remove the bearing.
- Remove the tilt lever.
- Remove the clamp plate.
- Remove the 2 bolts, the steering column harness retainer bracket, and the shift cable bracket.
NOTE:
To ease the removal of the tilt tension spring, make sure that the column tilt assembly is in the upward position.
