Electronic Automatic Temperature Control Module Self-Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The vehicle interior and exterior temperatures should be 50°-90°F (10°-32.2°C) when carrying out self-test. If temperature is not within specified range, false in-vehicle temperature sensor DTCs will be displayed.
  1. The EATC module self-test will detect concerns in system control functions and will display hard Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in addition to continuous diagnostic trouble codes for concerns that occur during system operation. The self-test can be initiated at any time. Normal operation of system stops when self-test is activated.
  2. The key must be in RUN position to enter self-test. To enter self-test, press OFF and floor position buttons simultaneously and then press AUTOMATIC button within 2 seconds. The display will show a pulse tracer around center of display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds. Record all DTCs displayed.
  3. If any DTCs are retrieved during self-test, proceed to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . If a condition exists but no DTCs are retrieved during self-test, proceed to SYMPTOM TESTS .
