CLOCKSPRING Centering
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Windstar. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING:
Operating vehicle with improperly centered clockspring may damage clockspring, and in the event of collision, cause air bag deployment malfunction. Personal injury may result. If clockspring rotor has moved or if unsure of rotor position, perform clockspring centering procedure.
CAUTION:
Over-rotating clockspring rotor can damage clockspring. Internal damage to clockspring may result. Internal ribbon wire acts as a stop, and if over-rotated, can be broken from its internal connection. When slight resistance is felt during rotation, internal ribbon wire is at end of travel.
While holding clockspring outer housing stationary, turn rotor counterclockwise until slight resistance is felt (end of travel). Turn clockspring rotor clockwise 3 turns. DO NOT allow clockspring to move from this position.
