Function Control

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Ford Pickup. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The function selector does not affect temperature blend door. Any desired temperature, from full cool to full warm, can be set regardless of which mode control mode is selected. See VACUUM DIAGRAMS .

Function selector knob can be placed in PANEL, PANEL & FLOOR, OFF, FLOOR, FLR & DEF (floor and defrost) and DEF (defrost) positions. Function selector position determines which mode doors are open, partially open or closed. Mode doors direct airflow to selected outlets. Three vacuum motors and doors are outside/recirculation, panel/defrost and floor/defrost. See VACUUM DIAGRAMS .

When function control is in panel position, air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into passenger compartment. Panel/defrost door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to instrument panel registers. A small amount of airflow from side window demisters will be present. Temperature can be adjusted to heat air, but air cannot be cooled below outside air temperature. Blower motor is on.

When function control is in off position, air inlet door is at full vacuum, closing off outside air and admitting only recirculated air. Panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, closing off airflow to defrost duct, side window demisters, floor duct and instrument panel registers. Blower motor is off.

When function control is in panel/floor position, air inlet door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, admitting only outside air into passenger compartment. Panel/defrost door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at partial vacuum, directing airflow to floor duct and instrument panel registers. A small amount of airflow from side window demisters will be present. Blended air temperature is available. Blower motor is on.

Panel/floor door vacuum control motor is at full vacuum and panel/defrost door vacuum control motor is at no vacuum, directing airflow to floor duct.
