Manual Transmission - Overhaul: Description
This Mazda-built 5-speed manual overdrive transaxle and differential assembly are contained in an aluminum alloy housing. All forward gears are helical cut for quiet operation and synchronized for ease in shifting.
Engine power is transferred from clutch disc to input shaft. Input shaft gears are in constant mesh with corresponding output shaft gears. Power is transmitted from selected gear on input shaft to matching output shaft gear. Power is then transmitted through output shaft to pinion gear, through differential assembly to axle shafts and wheels. See Fig 1 .
