Test L: No Communication With Generic Electronic Module

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Generic Electronic Module (GEM) 22-pin harness connector C201A. GEM is located behind center of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and GEM harness connector C201A terminals No. 12 (Orange/Light Green wire) and No. 13 (Red/Yellow wire). See Figure . If 10 volts or more exist at both terminals, go to next step. If less than 10 volts exist at either terminal, repair open in appropriate wire between GEM and Central Junction Box (CJB). CJB is located behind left side kick panel. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect GEM 26-pin harness connector C201B. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and GEM harness connector C201B terminal No. 26 (Black/White wire). See Fig 1 . If 10 volts or more exist, go to next step. If less than 10 volts exist, repair open in Black/White wire between GEM and Central Junction Box (CJB). CJB is located behind left side kick panel. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Ensure GEM harness connector C201A is still disconnected. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and GEM harness connector C201A terminal No. 1 (Black/Pink wire). If 10 volts or more exist, go to next step. If less than 10 volts exist, repair open in Black/Pink wire between GEM and Central Junction Box (CJB). CJB is located behind left side kick panel. See POWER DISTRIBUTION article in WIRING DIAGRAMS.
  4. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and GEM harness connector C201B terminal No. 12 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black wire between GEM and ground. Ground point is located on floor below driver's seat.
  5. Measure resistance between ground and GEM harness connector C201A terminal No. 2 (Black/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair module communications concern. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - ESCAPE article. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire between GEM and ground. Ground point is located behind center of instrument panel near GEM.
