Idle Validation Switch

The powertrain control module uses the Idle Validation Switch (IVS) signal to verify when accelerator pedal and shaft is in the idle position. Any detected malfunction of IVS will illuminate malfunction indicator light and engine will operate at low idle only. IVS protects against in-range failure of the accelerator position sensor. IVS is not serviced separately. IVS is part of accelerator pedal assembly. See Figure. If IVS is defective, accelerator pedal assembly must be replaced.
