Digital Transmission Range (TR) Sensor: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Mercury Villager. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    NOTE: The lever on the TR sensor must align with the manual shift linkage rod.
    NOTE: The special tool passes through the manual shift linkage rod, the TR sensor lever, and into the TR sensor.
  1. Install the TR.
    1. Position the TR sensor.
    2. Loosely install the bolts.
    3. Install the special tool.

  2. Connect the TR sensor.
    1. Tighten the bolts.
    2. Install the shifter cable nut.
    3. Connect the electrical connector.
    4. Remove the special tool.

  3. Install the engine splash shield.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. NOTE: When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
  6. Connect the battery ground cable.
