Test A: No Communication With Passive Anti-Theft System Module

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove and inspect instrument panel fuse block fuse No. 19 (25-amp) and No. 25 (7.5-amp). If fuses are okay, go to next step. If fuse(s) are not okay, replace fuse(s). Recheck system operation. If fuse(s) fail again, replace fuses and inspect for short(s) to ground in White/Yellow wire or Red/Light Green wire between Central Junction Box (CJB) and PATS module. Recheck system operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PATS module 16-pin harness connector C222, located behind right side of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and PATS module harness connector C222 terminal No. 15 (White/Yellow wire). See Figure . Measure voltage between ground and PATS module harness connector C222 terminal No. 16 (Red/Light Green wire). If 10 volts or less exists in either measurement, go to next step. If more than 10 volts exists in both measurements, go to step  4 .
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove CJB fuse No. 19 (25-amp) and No. 25 (7.5-amp). Measure resistance of Red/Light Green wire between CJB fuse No. 19 output terminal (left terminal) and PATS module harness connector C222 terminal No. 16. Measure resistance of White/Yellow wire between CJB fuse No. 25 output terminal (left terminal) and PATS module harness connector C222 terminal No. 15. If resistance is 5 ohms or more in either measurement, repair open in Red/Light Green wire or White/Yellow wire between CJB and PATS module. Clear DTCs and recheck system operation. If resistance is less than 5 ohms in both measurements, repair Tan/Black wire between CJB and battery junction box (BJB), or Light Green/Purple wire between CJB and ignition switch. Clear DTCs and recheck system operation.
  4. Measure resistance between ground and PATS module harness connector C222 terminal No. 7 (Black/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, problem is in communications network. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK - EXPLORER & MOUNTAINEER article to continue diagnosis. If resistance is 5 ohms or more, repair open in Black/White wire between PATS module and ground. Clear DTCs and recheck system operation.
