Key Programming - Additional Key With One Key Programmed

NOTE: This procedure is used when a customer needs to have an additional key programmed into system without erasing stored key codes, but does not have 2 programmed keys available. This procedure is also useful when attempting to determine if an ignition key is defective, as a new key can be installed without erasing keys or without having 2 programmed keys available. Before programming, new ignition key must have correct mechanical key cut for vehicle and must be an encoded key. A maximum of 8 keys can be programmed into system. If 8 keys are already programmed, this procedure will not allow any more to be programmed.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Insert Ford Service Function (FSF) card VERSION 6.0 or higher into New Generation Star (NGS) tester. Connect NGS tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Using NEW unprogrammed ignition key, turn ignition switch to RUN position.
  2. Select FUNCTION TEST MENU, SECURITY ACCESS PROCEDURE. Select IGNITION KEY CODE PROGRAM SELECT. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect NGS tester. Ensure vehicle starts using new ignition key.
