Test J: Security Identification Does Not Match Between Instrument Cluster & Powertrain Control Module
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below driver's side of instrument panel, to right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B2139 is retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B2139 is not retrieved, system is okay at this time.
- Perform security access procedure for instrument cluster. See KEY PROGRAMMING - SECURITY ACCESS PROCEDURE under PROGRAMMING. Using NGS tester, select Ford Service Function (FSF) card PARAMETER RESET command for instrument cluster. Use diagnostic card for PCM active command KEEP ALIVE MEMORY RESET. Select FSF card PARAMETER RESET command for PCM.
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position for 3 seconds. Clear continuous DTCs. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Using NGS tester, perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTC B2139 is retrieved, go to next step. If any DTCs other than B2139 are retrieved, perform appropriate test. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no DTCs are retrieved, system is okay at this time.
- Verify PCM calibration is correct for vehicle. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If calibration is correct, repeat step 3 . If DTC B2139 still exists, replace instrument cluster. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - MUSTANG article. Cycle ignition switch to RUN position using 2 encoded ignition keys. Return to step 1 . If DTC B2139 still exists, replace PCM. See REMOVAL & INSTALLATION . Perform instrument cluster self-test. Clear DTCs.
