Test D: One-Touch Down Feature Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below steering column. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using NGS tester, monitor GEM PID IGN_GEM while turning ignition switch through START, RUN, OFF and ACC positions. If PID values agree with ignition switch positions, go to next step. If PID values do not agree with ignition switch positions, diagnose interior lights. See appropriate wiring diagram in ILLUMINATION/INTERIOR LIGHTS article.
- Using NGS tester, retrieve and document continuous Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). Clear continuous DTCs. Perform Generic Electronic Module (GEM) on-demand self-test. If no DTCs are retrieved, go to next step. If DTC B1400 is retrieved, go to step 6 . If DTC B1398 is retrieved, go to step 8 . If DTC B1342 is retrieved, replace GEM.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove one-touch down relay from relay box 1. See Figure . Check one-touch down relay. See ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step. If one-touch down relay is not okay, replace one-touch down relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Remove window safety relay from relay box 1. See Figure . Measure resistance in Light Blue/Black wire between window safety relay connector cavity No. 30 and one-touch down relay connector cavity No. 1. See Figure and Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Blue/Black wire between window safety relay connector and one-touch down relay connector.
- On 2.5L engines, disconnect 18-pin GEM harness connector C201B. On all other engines, disconnect 20-pin GEM harness connector C2100B. GEM is located behind center of instrument panel. Measure resistance in Yellow/Red wire between one-touch down relay connector cavity No. 2 and GEM harness connector C201B terminal No. 2 (2.5L engines), or GEM harness connector C2100B terminal No. 9 (all other engines). See Figure or Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Yellow/Red wire between one-touch down relay and GEM.
- On 2.5L engines, disconnect 18-pin GEM harness connector C201B. On all other engines, disconnect 20-pin GEM harness connector C2100B. GEM is located behind center of instrument panel. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector cavity No. 2 (Yellow/Red wire). See Figure . If any voltage exists, repair Yellow/Red wire between one-touch down relay connector and GEM.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove one-touch down relay from relay box 1. See Figure . Check one-touch down relay. Perform ONE-TOUCH DOWN RELAY under COMPONENT TESTS. If one-touch down relay is okay, go to next step. If one-touch down relay is not okay, replace one-touch down relay. Clear DTCs and retest system operation.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and one-touch down relay connector cavities No. 5 (Light Blue/Black wire) and No. 1 (Light Blue/Black wire). See Figure . If all voltages are greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If any voltage is less than 10 volts, repair appropriate Light Blue/Black wire between window safety relay and one-touch down relay connector.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect left power window motor harness connector located in driver's door. On 2.5L engines, disconnect 18-pin GEM harness connector C201B. On all other models, disconnect 20-pin GEM harness connector C2100B. GEM is located behind center of instrument panel. On 2.5L engines, measure resistance between left power window motor harness connector Red wire terminal and GEM harness connector C201B terminal No. 17 (Gray wire). On all other engines, measure resistance between left power window motor harness connector Red wire terminal and GEM harness connector C2100A terminal No. 11 (Gray wire). See Figure or Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red wire and/or Gray wire between left power window motor and GEM.
- On 2.5L engines, measure resistance between left power window motor harness connector Red wire terminal and GEM harness connector C201B terminal No. 7 (Orange/White wire). On all other engines, measure resistance between left power window motor harness connector Red wire terminal and GEM harness connector C2100A terminal No. 12 (Orange/White wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace GEM. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Red wire and/or Orange/White wire between left power window motor and GEM.
