Test D: Dynamic Pull Occurs/Speed Control Inoperative (Flash Code 1)

NOTE: After completing any repairs, perform self-diagnostics. See SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM .
NOTE: Perform all voltage and resistance tests using an Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
  1. Test drive vehicle and observe speedometer operation. If speedometer operates properly, go to next step. If speedometer does not operate properly, repair speedometer as necessary. See appropriate ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - SABLE & TAURUS article. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect speed control servo/actuator 10-pin harness connector C122, located on left side of engine compartment. See Figure. Also disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 104-pin harness connector C175, located in right rear side of engine compartment. See Figure. Measure resistance between speed control servo/actuator harness connector C122 terminal No. 3 and PCM harness connector C175 terminal No. 68 (Gray/Black wire). See Figure and Fig 1 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, replace speed control servo/actuator. See SPEED CONTROL SERVO/ACTUATOR  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Gray/Black wire between speed control servo/actuator and PCM. After repair, test system for normal operation.
